Many Americans are just one paycheck away from being homeless. Up to 3.5 million Americans experience homelessness every year. Up to 10% experiencing homelessness have pets.
It's heartbreaking when we see someone homeless on the street and even more heartbreaking when they have pets. Many of these people had a pet at the time they were evicted. In some cases, individuals living on the streets choose to adopt a larger dog as a source of protection.
Pets help those in need by providing companionship, loyalty, and unconditional love. The homeless have a responsibility for their pet's well-being, which in turn gives them the desire to keep moving forward during desperate times.

Soup kitchens help feed the homeless population, but who feeds the pets of the homeless?
Feeding Pets of the Homeless is the first national USA nonprofit organization providing pet food and emergency veterinary care for pets of the homeless.
This organization also supports pets in underserved neighborhoods.
The pet food is collected by the volunteers, then it is delivered to food banks, soup kitchens, and homeless shelters. The organization also awards grants to veterinarians and nonprofit organizations that provide veterinary care to these pets.
